Night Car Trails

On a rainy night driving around Edinburgh, I decided to resurrect a technique that I had read about in Digital Photo some months ago. This involves fixing your camera in the middle of your car with a tripod looking forwards through the windscreen and taking medium length exposures as you are driving.

I got some weird and wonderful effects driving on the cobbles with lots of jaggy light trails. After experimenting I found that exposures between 0.5 – 1.5 seconds were best as they still gave some impression of the traffic around. The one I have chosen for my blip gives you some feel of the driving conditions.
