National Nothing Day
Today is National Nothing Day in the USA. Its objective:
to provide Americans with one National day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing or honoring anything.
Our highlight was Farmer Franz bringing over 4 bales of hay (bale weighs about 360kg or 800lbs. The bales were from another farmer in the village who had some spare and we want to mix it with the haylage which we are feeding but which has a bit too much moisture. Horses want a bit more crunch.
Franz had to make two trips, Angie joining him on the second one as she had to pay for the bales (hay is expensive this year due to the lousy 2013 spring/early summer). Good opportunity for a bit of gossip in the village:
Amongst the female population the questions include -what is Franz doing with a "strange" woman in his tractor?; what are they up to?. Remember this is a small village where most know what colour underpants you are wearing today.
Amongst the male farmers, women are respected for doing "farm work", the most points a woman can earn is at hay/silage making time, when a woman with a huge heavy wooden hay rake, toils in the midday sun raking a few blades of hay from the corners on to the swathes made by the male farmer on his massive 100,000 Euro tractor.
So Angie enjoyed the trip, also meeting the other farmer for the first time and having a look around his cow shed. He was very friendly and she thinks also liked to see her showing interest.
Well that was about all for a Nothing Day.
I am seriously behind on commenting for which my apologies but been busy keeping house and stables managed while Angie invalided with her squashed finger! She can't even go to her fitness classes but apart from the moments when it inadvertently comes in to contact with something, it's much better.
The low over the UK is still feeding us with mild weather and fighting off a very cold High somewhere over Scandanavia which is trying to push it's way down here. Looks like the Brits are winning at the moment but northern Germany and I suspect Emmy in Denmark may feel the Viking cold and even get some snow.
