There and back again

Slightly Boggy!!!!

On a casual glance Dartmoor would seem a benign landscape to walk over, it doesn't have the mountains of some other areas to cope with and all the dangers that they pose but what it lacks in this way it makes up for with the terrain underfoot. On both the north and south moors there are area of blanket bog and in any area you will find placed like this (above) where holes have become flooded and overgrown with vegetation and the unwary walker trying to cross it will fall through, into sometimes, deep holes. In places you will find, what we call on the moor, "feather beds". In these cases the vegetation can be strong enough to support a person and the sensation in doing so is like walking over a very soft wobbly mattress, of course not all of them are strong enough to support a person.

Take care!!!!
