Media City, UK, Manchester..

When the BBC announced that it was moving several of its departments up to Manchester from London, it was met by incredulity by many, especially those working at the BBC in London. It's now firmly bedded in at its new home in Salford Quays and is doing well. As well as the BBC, many other companies that support it have opened offices in Media City and across the city generally. It's been a great economic boost for the city. Media City is a huge campus straddling the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal. Some people aren't keen on the architecture and think something more iconic could have been put up. But the area already has the Lowry Centre and the Imperial War Museum which are both striking buildings. I like all the modernity and perfection of the area. And the huge plaza in front of the studios and the gardens are very popular. The towers are huge speakers that are used to project the sound of programmes on the giant screen. Cafes, bars and restaurants are opening up to serve the needs of the affluent TV types that use the area. Great place to celebrity spot on a sunny day...
