Wolvercote Lake

On Friday 7 February, I showed a photograph of Port Meadow looking north across the floods by the Thames. Today's picture was taken looking south (south by southeast) towards my earlier vantage point. There's certainly a lot of water around! This is the rapid flow of the river by the side of the Trout Inn, a famous and popular watering hole in Godstow.

We had started the morning by a visit to the Farmers' Market in Wolvercote. The ice cream from Haddenham comes in several flavours that sound very appealing. But perhaps they are not for a chilly Sunday in February. These empanadas are probably more suitable, and the saffron buns look rather tasty.

Here is another view of the lake that Port Meadow has become.

The little girl in our main 'photo was having a fine time feeding the swans, although I think I would be cautious about letting a child be so close to potentially dangerous creatures.

To my pleasure and surprise, we found some handsome beezles near the 'lake', although it is hard to imagine what this one is doing!

I have put up a collection of a few more photographs from our Sunday-morning excursion here.
