Dozing on the beach
A low, yellow half-moon seemed to be checking out this bulldozer on the beach – presumably clearing the channel across the beach for the rainwater (well, I hope it’s only rainwater).
Finally had a night’s sleep, after isolating FiFi-cat in another bedroom. As far as I could tell, she was as quiet as a mouse all night, and all day too, except when she heard us nearby. It also seemed a good idea to wean her (and myself) from each other’s company, as her new owner is due to come for her at the weekend. It will be a wrench to part with her, but we really don’t need a third cat to complicate our lives.
Later, I delivered my boring translation, got my hair cut and nails done and trekked down to the phone company yet again to see what could be done to improve our internet connection. The dear wee girl who sold us the package in the first place promises to work all sorts of miracles on Monday and get back to us. I’m not sure she’s very bright, or really knows the ins and outs of these complicated plans, but one can’t fault her on good humour and willingness.
Back home for a quick shower, grabbed HH and belted to the cinema, arriving just in time for the start of “Philomena”. The film really resonated with me, as my brother and our two daughters are adopted and some aspects of Philomena’s story echo theirs, although no evil nuns (and like Martin Sixsmith, I think ‘evil’ fits the case) were involved, as far as I know. I thought all the acting and the casting were excellent. Having just watched in interview with Martin Sixsmith and Steve Coogan, I now can’t wait to read the book.
Afterwards, we met up at a bar, crowded with happy Friday-night-outers, with digitaldaze and Barrioboy, last chance before they flit off on their travels again. Of course, we all had to stop of for a gelato on the way home.
