River in flood

I know there are images showing far worse flooding, but as part of my One River Project I had to show this. Here is the River Eden, not far from the centre of Carlisle and it has burst its banks. As you can see, Rickerby Park at the end of the bridge I was on is largely under water. The water was flowing at a frightening pace under the bridge.

The water is not at the levels that it was when there were the Carlisle Floods, but this is one of the places that it happened. A lady who lived close by said that earlier the water was much higher, the flood gates were closed and the defences, that I have mentioned when collecting the plaques, served to keep the water from their houses.
