Daffodils on St David's Day

Travelled from Torquay to Cardiff to visit mum in the nursing home today. I had booked a hotel to stay overnight but then couldn't face being stuck in a room with two panting collies so we decided to make it a day trip. We booked a lovely lunch in a local hotel and were joined by other members of our extended family.
My mother is one of those people who really values our visits, no matter how short. She is immensely positive and accepting and, although a part of her personality died when she had the stroke, she is still the caring and loving mum we always knew.

I also spent some time with my cousin, Linda, whose mother, is in the same nursing home but is in the last days of her life. Linda and I had lost touch over the years but had had enormous fun together as teenagers. It is amazing how that spark was still there and, despite the sadness of the occasion, we slotted straight into that old relationship and talked non-stop reminiscing and laughing about the past.. Linda's mother, Alice, was one of life's characters. She said what popped into her head, to anyone and everyone, without ever hitting the edit button, and the affects were often hilarious.

This Blip then is to acknowledge the lives of two very different but equally lovely Welsh women who raised their families in the decades after the war. They knew hard times but still managed to create secure and loving homes for their children.

The photo is of the daffodils on my mother's windowsill. Happy St. David's Day.
