It made it!

At the eleventh hour I realised I needed something to eat so grabbed a couple of eggs. Then I realised I needed a blip as well.

My Araucana hen has laid her first egg since the fox attack. The eggs are blue but uniquely, the colour doesn't go through the shell so the inside is pure white. When I lit it with a torch the blue reflected onto the paper and this is the result.

News of the day. The badger, or one of it's relations, is back. My neighbour was having his evening puff on his pipe at the door when the brock passed through the gate and straight past him at arms length.

Although an attack on domestic fowl is rare, it may well be that the fox wasn't to blame for my losses. The hen house is only a few paces from the entrance to the summer sett. The dogs have been sniffing around more than normal but I suspected the fox had been laying up in the hedge. This morning, on inspection, there were a number of holes in the garden where our visitor has been digging for worms.

The sett has been under the buildings here for longer than living memory. If possible, I'll sit out for the badger at the weekend. In the meantime I'll try to find time to set up the night camera.
