Boowinda Gorge
Woke up at sunrise this morning which was 5.30. Masses of strange noises last night and you could hear the thumping of the kangaroos jumping by.
Breakfast was muesli, we were entertained at breakfast by kangaroos flighting. It is so funny how they go on their tail and then kick! We drove to the start of the walk we were going to do. It's a fun walk as we had to kept crossing the river by stepping stones. As we got further it was getting harder to find ways to cross. We came across a very grumpy kangaroo....it growled at us. Had no idea that kangaroos growl!!! So weird. I let Duncan go in front of me so I could take a picture if it did get into it's tail!! Eventually we had to walk through the long grass to get around it. At the very end of the gorge there we sat down and I thought I heard people coming but we then realised it was our voices echoing. The echo was so clear, you could make quite a cool beat with it. The best sound was when you crunched your bottle it would come back so clear!
The picture is a really narrow gorge you can walk through for miles. Hot such a fright at one point through the walk as a big palm tree leaf fell behind me...luckily didn't fall on me.
After the 23km we went to have a swim in a rock pool, there was masses of algae in it. Was strange as there were warm patches and cold patches were you swam. We read a sign afterwards that said 'not to swim in the rock pool as catfish are breeding and they may scratch you'. Luckily they didn't!!
Had masses of blisters after the walk and a splitting headache. Chatted to some couples at the campsite whilst we made supper. Such a funny old lady talking about her travels when she was my age. Apparently she came across a bear in Canada!! They gave me a weird powder for my 'spider bites'!
