The Pound's Low
It's not the sharpest image in the world, nor is it the best photo of a bird that's ever been taken. But - it was a high point of the day to see several grey wagtails bobbing about and posing for photos.
We confused a hire boat couple when we passed them and Lawrie announced helpful "the pound's low back there - be careful." They had that expression of polite confusion which indicated that they had no idea why the strange man was talking about the exchange rate.
Then there was another pub. This time it wasn't a good experience as a) they'd stopped serving food (it was 5.45pm) b) they closed at 7pm c) most of the real ales were off, d) the barmaid didn't know how to use a corkscrew and e) she couldn't tell a pale ale from a malty brew.
