Bob Dylan in the Engine Room
The next request I've got was from Albert Klijn, our former Chief Engineer. Retired doesn't mean you have lost your professional interest so these are the details of our four main engines.
Make : MAK 6 cylinder in Line
Type : 6M 32C
Output : 3000 KW @ 600-750 rpm
Bore : 320 mm
Stroke : 480 mm
Weight : 37.5 metric ton
The major advantage of four main engines on two propellors is that you can interchange powerconfigurations the way you want it. Switching one engine off for maintenance is no problem because the two Port Side engines share one gear box and the SB engines the other one. Both gearboxes have each a shaft generator.
Bollard Pull of the Kolga is amazing, we've pulled 208 metric tons on the scale in Spain and that makes us the strongest tug flying the Dutch Flag. (by far!)
The engine room is guarded with camera's and computers, on the bridge we have a complete Engine Room control screen as well as the Chief Engineer has in his cabin. That means he can oversee every detail of his engine room from his cabin.
Times, they are a changing sang Bob Dylan, and he is right. Compared with the Husky and Retriever, let alone the Frigg and Freya, this is a complete different technical world.
