at home with an Ivysaurus

BUBBLES!!!!

Having a very productive day. Two loads of washing done so far, and the tumble drier and washing baskets moved from Ivy's room into ours so there is now almost and tidy practically empty room for her to crawl about in. We've also started working on drawing up a list of wedding guests- wedding still more than a year away, but we want to give people lots of notice.

Ivy and I put washing away upstairs whilst she crawled about listening to upbeat classical music. She was given a CD of RNSO music when we registered her birth and it has a section of tracks for 'play time'. She particularly appreciated Troika, I think at some point during the week I'll let her listen to the whole Luitenant Kije suite. She's starting to try and pull herself up on me and Euan. She got onto her feet using my knee, but then fell over and properly thumped her head- she's got two teeny tiny bruised knees just now too, at least she's learning resilience.

This afternoon we had coffee with Ruth whose the depute teacher in the school. Ivy was in a funny mood, she had had both her naps but hadn't stayed asleep for as long as she probably needed. She now had enough control of sitting and turning that she can throw herself into a feeding position and tug at my t-shirt. I knew she wasn't hungry as she ate before we left the house, but her crying and obviously looking for food and me refusing made some people look at me funny. Ullapool has done that funny thing when it suddenly fills up with tourists- who do things like stop in the street and point at things or walk into the hardware shop and loudly announce 'Oh! it's one of THOSE!" (no idea what one of those is....)

The skill that Ivy majorly lacks is the ability to put things in her mouth. We've been trying to teach her to do it by giving her things like dried apricot to taste and then letting go in the hope she'll be tempted to put it back in once she's had a taste. Ivy has responded to this by learning to hold an apricot in her mouth for the time it takes to eat it- it takes her about 15 minutes, but she polish off a whole one without it falling out even once. I'm not sure if it's a valuable skill, but it's certainly very funny to watch.

She is currently asleep strapped to Euan's front. We have a beautiful new half buckle carrier that's from a converted woven wrap- it is super dooper soft and ivy has yet to stay awake for more than a couple of minutes when put in it. It's our napping wrap!

As I suspected she would, Ivy didn't keep up the sleeping through the night. She woke up at 8, 9, 11 and 1 last night, before sleeping through till 6am.
