Killing fields!!
The guy who we shared a room with left early as he was getting a bus south to the Islands. So me and the nizzy had a bit of a chill before an amazing breakfast(real Heinz beans). I then hired a scooter so we could drive to the killing fields. It has to be said driving in this city is absolutely crazy, there is no real rules and it's just a case of swerving past everyone.
We arrived at the killing fields and took the audio tour around the grounds. On the 17th of April 1975 the Khmer Rouge entered the city and began the slaughter of many Cambodians. They were transported from the city to this area to be killed using basic weapons and dumped in mass graves. It was a pretty horrible experience seeing and hearing about this awful time in Cambodian history. Over 3 million Cambodians died over a few years and resulted in loads of people being displaced.
After all that sadness we thought we should make our day even worse by visiting a place called S-21 which was an old school in the city that was turned into a prison. This is where all the people were questioned/tortured before being transported to be killed. Again this place was fascinating but really depressing. We made it back in time to hand the scooter in and head out a walk.
We ended up at the mall as we wanted to watch a movie and have a munch. The movies were on to late and we had some rubbish western food. We had a nice walk back and watched a couple of episodes of SOA.
