Mist or Pollution
Well a little bit of both.
In the last few days of 1952 a combination of calm weather conditions combined with thick smoke from 1,000s of open coal fires and factories to kill an estimated 4,000 people in London. More recent research puts that figure at nearer 12,000 people. It is still the most severe pollution episode in UK history.
I still use laws that were written as a result of that pollution episode. When the news is full of concerns about this current episode it is worth reflecting on the 1952 events. We have come a long way in those 62 years and some perspective is necessary. Although this current pollution may affect some susceptible groups of people, there is no reason for anyone to die and for the vast majority of us it will just be an opportunity to capture some misty scenes.
Perspective (Defn.)
"True understanding of the relative importance of things; a sense of proportion"
