Wimborne Minster, Dorset: Minster interior

A 12th and 13th century building, massive and forbidding from the outside, delightful inside. Plenty to see and enjoy, including (if you are lucky) its chained library.

PHOTOGRAPHIC ASPECTS

This photo was taken using a wide-angle lens, hence the apparent perspective distortion of the lectern, which was only a couple of feet in front of the camera. A slightly oblique view into the nave was needed to bring out the details in its columns and arches. The camera was hand-held.

Exposure bracketing was used to bring out the full tonal range and details of the building without losing the figures in the stained glass windows.

Lighting in the lower part of the minster is mainly artificial, whereas the upper regions benefit only from natural light; this results in very different colour casts.
