The Colours of Vulcano
Vulcno is a small island south of Lipari that consists of one of the Aeolian region's active volcanoes.
Even as you approach the island by boat, the smell of sulphur is overpowering, and it takes a good hour or so before the nose becomes accustomed! But as you can see from the amazing colours, the place wouldn't be the same without it. It's a bit of a trek to the top, but well worth it for the view of the huge crater and to walk through the clouds of sulphur smoke that rise from the cauldron of the volcano slowly simmering away underneath.
On a day like this, the colours really are something!
