Sunny D.C

Well it eventually stopped snowing late last night, but we were firmly ensconced in the (excellent) hotel restaurant, quaffing red wine and munching on some fine food.

This morning the contrast could not have been greater - the sun was out, the sky was blue, and although cold still it was perfect weather to go for a walk, gingerly making our way to the Mall, past the Washington Monument (seen here), towards the Lincoln Memorial. Surreal sight of the day was people skiiing parallel to us - didn't quite expect to see that during this holiday! Unfortunately the Smithsonian museums were shut but we'll hopefully see one or two tomorrow.

Stopped at the Vietnam Memorial which was moving, the sheer volume of engraved names being ovewhelming. Continued past the White House (now surrounded by the white stuff) and onto an old bar and grill for a much needed rest - soup for a very cold Mrs DP and pastrami sarnie for me. A quick mooch around some more shops to get our last purchases and then back to the hotel.

Last night here of a fairly eventful city break!
