At Home: DIY Food......x

I think I am going to header a campaign on DIY food.

Listening to yet another article on food poverty, I debate this over my sandwich. Its a tricky one. The contents of my sandwich have gone before me. I am effectively eating up the end of a pack lunch week. The packet of sweet chilli chicken, £3. Its make already 9 rounds of sandwiches. Yes I am a bit tight on my portioning, but then I have heaped into the (£1 pack per 6 buns x2 ) tons of salad and cucumber and into ours, red onion.

I do a quick round up, a tally of the figures. I am no mathematician, in fact my daughter is about to struggle through her maths SATs. I realise that, even tragic skills in adding up, that my sandwich is amounting to less than 70p a go.

I do know what food poverty is, before you wonder if I am completely heartless and out of touch. I have struggled to feed my children before. These low points in your life, make you learn. You learn the hard way, when you have accepted a meal from your neighbours, or asked for a tin of beans to feed your children. These low points are points of no return. Thank fully, I am long way past that point, although the lessons still remain the same. Waste nothing. Eat well. Inspire your children. Life is so much better….x
