Preparing for the Hungry

Every Friday from 5 PM to 6 PM there is a meal at our church for hungry/homeless people. This is part of our group in the kitchen preparing to serve tonight. We usually feed about 25 - 45 people with several asking for take-outs. Needless to say, when we join our guests to eat, the conversations are rich, revealing, and often sad. Tonight's folks included a mom, her husband (or boyfriend), a 7 year-old daughter, and an infant daughter. They came from the shelter to the meal on a small bus, but they sleep separately - men vs. women - since the shelter has no accommodations for family groups.
