Not one for the rat lovers....

I was working today and at smoko had seen this kooka chilling in a big eucalypt near our staff area. Twenty minutes later he'd flown into this tree behind the hospital building with a meal of epic proportion! I've never seen a kookburra catch something so big! He gave it a fair wack (tendorising process) on the branch a few times and this was the best action shot I could manage.

Unfortunately in my quest to get closer and into better light I stood on some crunchy plastic and scared him off! I never got to witness how on earth he managed to swallow such a large prey item... but I doubt he would have been able to fly very well afterwards!
