To Hallaig on Hallaig

The ferry to Raasay is called the Hallaig. Our walk today was on the eastern side of the Island to Hallaig which was a crofting settlement until the Clearances of the last century. People were replaced by sheep at that time. As their lordships do.

The ferry is brand new and is a hybrid vessel that, as I was told by a fellow passenger, runs on electricity with back up diesels. The journey is only 15 minutes. We've been across a few times on the old ferries which seemed to be on their last legs. They have spent a lot of money on the ferry and the new terminal buildings at both ends. There seems to be enough cash in Scotland.
