Sweet

Today is a holiday. We have too many of those according to the government who is asking citizens to "donate" back a day for the sake of the economy. A poll shown on the news today though reveals that 69% of my fellow citizens do not agree that we have too many holidays (what a surprise!). So damn the government's request ;)

And that means everything is more or less closed for business (a concept totally foreign in the US). Except pastry shops because how better to celebrate holidays than to eat something sweet? Pastry shops are usually located right near the exit of churches; clever business model when you know that the tradition mandates that church goers attend service with an empty stomach. The prospect of getting a fresh croissant or torche marron was a major inducement to get us out of bed and into church as kids ;)

Spent the day getting over jet lag -- always a pain when traveling eastward -- and planning my meetings with local winemakers, as part of my little project. Now if only weather cooperated and it stopped raining….
