One hundred and one

This is my Grandmother, 'Nanna' to me, GG to my children. She's going to be 101 next week.

Born near Caerphilly, Wales, in 1913, the year after the Titanic sank, the year before WW1 started. She was a nurse in London during WW2, looking after civilians injured in air-raids. Married for 60 years, she lost my Grandfather 20 years ago and still misses him. She has outlived 8 brothers and sisters, and all her old friends.

She still reads The Telegraph cover to cover every day, takes an interest in current affairs and the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren - and still tells me off! Regularly!

Happy birthday Nanna. I'm glad you liked your birthday hat.
