At home: Fire gazing.....
There is something so innately primitive about a fire.
The children race around gathering sticks. They have sat through many a native american fire ceremonies at glastonbury to know the connection of fire with the sun and the other elements. When its understood from that dimension their respect for fire becomes much more than fire gazing.
Giving thanks to elements might seem a little crazy to many. For that moment, they are all given a change respect and at least think about how without the balance their would be no warmth, water, soil and wind. Its a fine balance too.
In lighting the fire, the boys say, "but there is not enough wind". There is just enough. They run off the compensate by collecting some old hay to use a tinder. They all unconsciously talk to the fire. I hear them asking it, blowing it into life. I think about the desperate, primitive need we have to see fire come alive. Its reassuring. The world is well when a fire is lit. Security.
The boys rejoice at the flames. They feed the fire and immediately run off in search of something to cook. They make stick fire lanterns, marching round the field.
Fire. So simple, so underrated in a world of gas and electricity. Its feels so good to stay in touch with it........x
