My 40th year

Sunny day blues

Late night blip of the Bay tree outside the back door. It was here when we moved in and has survived 2 vicious prunings from Mark, one that was supposed to result in its demise. I use these fragrant leaves in so many recipes, casseroles, baked with potatoes, sweet dishes, pilau rice etc. This generous tree has definitely earned its place in our garden.

Work today, I am definitely feeling the withdrawal effects of a brilliant weekend. India is busy with her waxworks project for school, performance this Thursday, Heidi has taken to calling her by her part 'Elizabeth Blackwell'. As I stood in my parents porch I noticed 2 flower arrangements, one a riotous mass of colour, mostly pinks, big blooms and very fragrant. The other was elegantly understated, beautifully created, mostly foliage with one large fragrant yellow rose. I was smiling to myself guessing who had made which one when India waved at me through the window excited to show me her perfect example of less is more. We decided to take Indias arrangement to Gillian's house for her birthday today, I knew she would love it, it was just right. India leaped out the car and proudly delivered it. I have the cake to make for tomorrow but am really tired today so am aiming to get up early and get it in the oven before the school run!
