I think this is Slingsby Place near Leicester Sq.

A n excellent day in London today with our Canadian friend Marion. I've known Marion since 1981 when I spent a year teaching in Ontario and have kept up contact ever since. Marion's over for a few weeks and is coming with us to Cornwall next week.

She's been to London many times so has seen most of the tourist sites so we decided to take her somewhere different. After a coffee we set out on a short walk from High Holborn to Temple through the Inns of Court. What a facsinating enclave these places are: just off busy thoroughfares but quiet, tranquil and a different world. The buildings, gardens and atmosphere was something special. We'd never been before, so it was all new to us. Great to learn about how these Inns came into being and the part they play in our legal system.

We stopped part the way around for lunch at the Old Bank of England pub which itself was a super building inside, tastefully converted to a Fullers Ales pub - and the London Pride ale (my favourite) served almost to perfection.

The afternoon was a complete contrast - Camden Town and the Market. We'd been there before with Chris and De'Shaun and thought we'd seen all of this brash, lively place but we discovered a huge, whole new section beyond the lock - the Stables Market. Well, this place was like a labyrinth, seemingly endless with countless shops, stalls and horse statues. A restorative cup of tea was very welcome.

There was one place in London I would have expected Marion to have visited - Covent Garden, but she hadn't so we finished the day with supper at The Porter near the Market and strolled through the Market afterwards on our way back to Leicester Square tube station which was where we spotted this street and of all the shots today, this is the one that caught my eye.

Back up to London again tomorrow - but this time for work.
