Green and pleasant land
Backblip
The countryside in Scotland can change so quickly from lush green fields to barren moorland, to the coast with it's sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs.
We've had an amazing day and can't believe we've fitted in so much. After breakfast we went for a walk up the lane. There were so many birds flying from one side of the road to the other. We saw a wren singing it's heart out on a wire, a yellow hammer, so many chiffchaffs with mouths full of flies, baby great tits, thrush, blackbird and many more some we could hear but not see.
We walked past the old School with it's old red phonebox and postbox outside. Spotted pink bluebells. Watched speckled wood butterflies and listened to the cuckoo who seemed to be following us.
Managed to find a cut down tree to sit on for a rest and a drink and admired the view as the cut down trees opened everywhere up. A buzzard flew overhead being mobbed by a lone crow.
On the way back we watched about 20 white butterflies feeding on a small patch of white flowers. Never seen so many in one spot.
After luch we took a drive out to explore the local area. This is the view from just outside a pretty farmhouse. The sheep all seemed very relaxed as the lambs were frolicking about in the sunshine.
A hare was busy cleaning and feeding on the drive way.
We arrived at Reelig Glen and went for another walk through the 'tall trees'. A beautiful place created by the Victorians who planted a variety of trees and created a grotto and stone bridge at the end. A young dipper was practising it's diving skills as the adult bird watched. Several grey wagtails were busy catching flies. The banks were lined with a range of wild flowers including orchids and bugle.
Saw the badger and plenty of bats and then it was time for bed.
