Spotted Cranefly
I spotted these Spotted Craneflies on some grass seed heads this afternoon and liked the colour and markings on their bodies.
Although similar to the commoner 'daddy-long-legs' the Spotted Cranefly can be readily recognised. It can be found almost anywhere, though it is much less likely to enter houses than the 'daddy long-leg's. The larvae are known as leatherjackets. They are 18-24mm in length, the female is the larger and has a pointed red tip to her abdomen.
