Mount Etna
This is the second new crater, formed in 2002 by the most recent serious eruption, which destroyed the cable car station and parts of various villages. The "lunar" landscape is awe-inspiring and the lava fields utterly inimical to life. We walked around the two craters at the top - it was absolutely FREEZING up there, even with woollies on!
We deserved our Sicilian lunch at the bottom. Next stop: Siracuse...
