Making Memories . . .
. . . Leaving Footprints.
This has been our last full day of mini-vacation at the beach. We walked and walked. Went as far a Fishermen's Cove before turning back toward our hotel to stop in our room for a late lunch and then to walk some more.
We walked through a place that we affectionately call "Picnic Beach," and together we talked through the moments, many of them, that we spent at this place years ago when our two kids were quite little and we were young.
Back in those days I would pack the car with everything we needed for a late afternoon on the beach, then pick-up Mr. Fun as he got off work, and we'd drive 50 minutes to Laguna Beach to spend the end of the day on the sand soaking-up the rays and playing in the waves at Crescent Bay and then several hours later move a few blocks away to Picnic Beach to cook our hot dog dinner in the park. Late in the evening we'd drive through the summer heat to home.
When we got back to our hotel late this afternoon, we got a text message from our friends, Scott & Peg. They were a few blocks away about to have a picnic dinner. So after the sunset and they'd finished their picnicing, they joined us in our 5th floor "room with a view" vacation spot. After a fun evening together, they headed for home.
Sometime tomorrow we'll exit this room, point the car east, and arrive home with a bundle of fabulous new memories. This week while walking and talking and eating and drinking and living, we've filled our canvas with all the colors of a vacation. We're sure it will be one of our favorite paintings this year.
Good night from the shoreline of Laguna Beach--5 floors up.
