Walking the Line @GraysArtSchool

Up-and-down-in-a-day to Aberdeen to see Gray's School of Art Degree Show.
I'm reviewing it for Saturday's Herald.
This shows sculpture graduate, Kirstin Clark, doing a live performance in a specially created 'pen'. Pacing around its four walls endlessly, marking the sides with a continuous and increasingly dense line of charcoal, this felt like a violent yet strangely meditative work.
The noise she made as she scored the walls was hypnotic, as was the action of walking round and round, making ever-more pronounced footsteps in the white powdery chalk on the floor. You could see the powder had been clearly delineated in a neat square at the start of the performance.
There was something of the Shamanic trance about it as a bare-foot Kirstin paced around in a increasingly filthy white vest and black leggings, dragging her charcoal as she went
An excellent show. I even bought a print from a student called Sophie Will, which I love. I've never bought anything at a degree show before. Total spur-of-the-moment decision.
