Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
The village of Montbrun-les-Bains is one of " Les Plus Beaux Villages de France"
You can see why!
One of the many photos I took on todays drive along the Toulourenc valley on the north side of Mt Ventoux, and once again into the Drome.
Such beautiful countryside, and apart from a few bikers, we hardly saw any cars, which was a good job as the road was very narrow in places and I had my fingers crossed we wouldn't meet any!
This was one of the villages we passed.( On the list to visit next time.)
Dominated by the ruins of a Medieval Castle and overlooking a plain swathed in lavender fields. Unfortunately the lavender was only just beginning to flower.
20 years ago, at the bottom of the village, the pump rooms have given a new lease of life to an ancient spring that has beneficial effects, and a new Spa has opened.
Our lunch stop was at the Auberge la Claveliere, in the small village of Saint Auban sur l'Ouveze.
Through the small doorway opening off the village street, we then went through to the terrace, with the most wonderful view. Dotted on the hill side were fields of lavender. Some in full flower, and others just beginning to show some colour.
(I will put a photo up on my blipfolio.) see here
13.50 euro menu started with a cocktail of large prawns, followed by a wonderfully succulent steak, and cheese for MrC ( 9 to choose from) I could only manage a sorbet one apricot and one citron. Half a bottle of a local rose wine made with the syrah grape. Had to drink most of it as MrC driving. Quite different from the ones we have been having, but very good with the food.
We drove back along the Ouveze valley to Buis-les-Baronnies, and then back to Vaison.
Had a swim, and now a rest. Very warm again today but felt much fresher up in the Drome.
Last day tomorrow before we set off back home.
How time flies!
