The sights of Le Tour
We decided this morning to head up to Ripon to try and get a glimpse of Le Tour whizzing past. There was a big screen at the race course and we thought it would be a bit easier than going into some of the towns further into the Dales, definitely quieter than Leeds or Harrogate.
It has been a great day - the weather was glorious, the atmosphere was great. The town had made a great effort in decorating and getting into the spirit of things.
We found a spot on one of the roundabouts and sat waiting. The police were enjoying themselves, lots of official cars went flying through. The 'caravan' came and went rather faster than they should. apparently trying to make some time up. After another hour's wait the cyclists whizzed through - I didn't even get chance to see if I could spot Cav!! Took lots of shots, none of them great. And then it was all over! We didn't even get back to the racecourse before the cyclists had reached Harrogate and finished.
As it was so nice we sat down watching the big screen again, had a cuppa and an icecream before coming home. So glad we went, we may never get that chance again.
Well done Yorkshire for really embracing Le Tour, hope tomorrow is just as good for anybody watching.
