Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Homage to the Stars

Cloudy and drizzly today. H headed up the hill for more broom patrol but as it just started to rain at that point, I decided I’d rather play in the studio. A GOOD choice as he disturbed a yellow jacket nest - just got one sting, but that’s my worst nightmare since I am allergic to them….yes I have an epi pen but never carry it around…

So this is the art from today inspired by Musings last weekend and the papers we printed. She gave me a board so I decided to try collaging them on that. I found a little star sponge stamp we made with the kids - the sea stars are always on my mind here since they are disappearing rapidly due to some wasting disease. (see this blip ) (Yes,of course they’re “starfish” but since reading all this info about them - they are not really fish, but echinoderms- I’ve decided on this nomenclature.)

Here’s the method if you are interested. The papers Musing brought and we printed with acrylics were collaged on a 12x12 canvas board with matte media.— but they don’t really work well - they wrinkle and can’t be coaxed to lay totally flat - (same on my book pages…) but no matter. then I started painting over them with thin paints, thinking of the Zendangles (inspired by nhc.) we’ve been doing but with paint not pens (follow the contours and patterns of the papers, make patterns in spaces, etc.) I do love to paint the best.. The bit of texture of the papers was perfect for this subject. The stars here are losing legs and turning into white mush — but I have hope that some young ones will survive and they will come back!

And now I’ve lit the sauna for the first time in weeks - at least one of us worked hard today and deserves it. :-)
