Purple People Eaters
Our school uniform (it was a girls school) was purple and we were known locally as "The purple people eaters". I loved that uniform (still have the boater and blazer and scarf!) and still love the colour too.
This morning we visited the Roman camp for a glimpse into the life of a soldier and his family. That was very entertaining. They were practising their fighting in a main central area, and around this were various tents where we could see cooking vessels, armour, writing implements and weapons. Following that, we went on a guided "Roman walk" around Alcester where the guide told us lots of facts about our local town that we were unaware of, and showed us where all sorts of Roman artifacts were unearthed.
This afternoon it was up to the Cotswolds, and Snowshill Lavender Farm (see Draco's blip from earlier this week). It was absolutely stunning in the afternoon sun, and well worth a visit. Our friends from Edinburgh, who are staying with us for the weekend, absolutely loved it there. We could smell the scent in the warm air, and the both the lavender and the huge number of wild flowers (planted near to the lavender to promote the bees and butterflies and other insects) looked fabulous.
This is a view looking up a lavender field. I chose this because it has the different colours of various types of lavender, and also because right in the distance (view it large for a better picture) you can see the umbrella of a Japanese lady who was trying to shield herself from the sun.
Our friends are going to return to Edinburgh tomorrow thinking that Alcester is THE happening place of the UK after our adventures this weekend!
