Horizontal Falls

A fantastic day. We had a 3 hour un-made road 4WD trip to Cape Lefeque the most northerly point of the Dampier Peninsula where deep red rocks met white sands which fell to the deep blue Indian Ocean. From there we got a sea plane over 1000 islands in Buccaneer Bay (I was given the not-too-arduous task of being co-pilot) to land on Lake Talbot, where we had lunch on a houseboat. After swimming in a cage with sharks outside - honest I did it! -we then headed in the very powerful boat which was necessary to propel us through the two horizontal falls. They are not actually waterfalls - they provide a perfect demonstration of the awesome power of the Kimberley's huge 10 metre tides, amongst the highest in the world. Because of the 40 metre depth between the rocks, 10 million litres of water a second passes through at either high or low tide. It was such amazing fun!
