Memorial Cross

Orton Scar's cross isn't as many assume a war memorial or a reminder of the coast to coast's original pilgrim purpose - its actually a jubilee memorial for Queen Victoria. It was substantially restored and repaired for Queen Elizabeth's jubilee last year.
It's purpose is, to be fair, of little interest to me - but perched on its fantastic little viewpoint, not much more than a ring contour on the moor - but enough to raise you higher than your surroundings - its a fantastic point of focus in this wild place - somewhere to aim for as we walk pooch - somewhere we know we can pause and appreciate what's around.
