The gilding of the gingerbread!
Another great day in Scotland's capital which started with a bit of a climb up Salisbury Crags. A bit grey for views this morning but still very warm.
We stopped for coffee in the cafe at Holyrood Palace and saw these lovely gilded scenes on the doors into the Queen's Gallery just near the entrance.
The main picture with the lion rampant also shoe
Ws the skyline of Edinburgh's Royal Mile that leads from the castle to the palace.
The inset picture with the unicorn shows the outline of Salisbury Crags with Arthur's Seat behind which are alongside Holyrood Park. I thought both were beautiful as were other embellishments on the doors.
Crossing the road to the Scottish Assembly building (parliament) I spotted that the Great Tapestry of Scotland was on display till September. PaulaJ saw this last year and my friend and I were disappointed to have missed it when we visited last November.
This really was the high point of our visit for me. I love textiles and textile art and the 160 panels that make up this work outlining Scotland's history are just superb. All other plans went out of the window. You are allowed to photograph it without flash but I didn't think I could do it justice.
The true gilding on the gingerbread for me was today they were allowing people to work a few stitches on a panel commemorating the Scottish Parliament buildings opening in 1999. I did a few French knots and some random green running stitches to represent grass at the bottom of the panel. This panel will be displayed permanently in the assembly building! I'm just thrilled and will be back to see it.

I'm a very happy bunny but I have sore feet and am now quite tired after a fire alarm at our hotel last night at 1.00am had us all outside in the car park!
Will try to catch up with comments later, only have 30 mins of free wifi
