A First!

My very first dragon, and he was a beauty. I didn't do him justice at all but since he was my first I figured it wasn't a bad start. At least now I know where to find them. When the sun hit his wings they looked like spun gold. Amazing creatures.

Mary Jo and I had a mini blip meet today starting with a visit to a brand new butterfly garden put in by very dedicated volunteers at a local convalescent center. We went to their open house but the butterflies didn't. We forgot to factor in that the plants were too new and the butterflies hadn't had a chance to find the place yet. It was a lovely little spot and it was heartwarming to see the results of the dedication and a year and a half of hard work by a small group of volunteers. We’ll check back next year when the plants have matured and the butterflies show up.

After that we went out to Tennant Lake, an interpretative center and fragrance garden, and a great spot for viewing all sorts of birds and wildlife, none of which we saw. We heard frogs but could never catch one in full view and one bird, a waxwing, perched on a branch long enough for us to check it out. We figured the lack of wildlife was because we were there at the hottest part of the day (we obviously weren’t as smart as the wildlife). We did find several dragonflies but this fellow was the only one that held still long enough to photograph.

As always, it was a fun day with Mary Jo, and it was her birthday too. I'm going to have to find her a butterfly though.
