A day of rushing and Burt Bacharach...
Despite my good intentions to post my Monday blip featuring Eric and a little friend (no idea what he was saying to Eric) early, the day ran away from me and and I ran out of time.
Go large...
It was a really busy one with a lot to squash in.
I went to see Burt Bacharach at Birmingham Symphony Hall last night. A slightly different concert for me but as he'd been writing songs for people and film scores since the 1950's, it made a concert I definitely wanted to go to. I've got to the stage where I'll see most people when I get the chance as you never know if you'll ever get another one.
I seldom go into Birmingham at all these days - concerts is about the ony reason - and while the Symphony Hall and the immediate surrounding areas with the canals, the new library and the smart hotels/bars are wonderful, passing through the other parts to get to it are truly awful! I have no love whatsoever for the city in which I have spent most of my life.
Anyway, I could write a big list of all the things that Burt Bacharach has written over the years. The 86 year old performed much of what is listed here mainly playing the piano accompanied by some marvellous backing singers and top musicians.
The Symphony Hall was packed and I was struggling a bit on the warm evening on a day which had started for me at 5am. I was sat two rows from the front and nodding off was not an option! My contact lenses stuck to my eyeballs and in the end I was forced to rummage in my bag to get some eye drops and I'm sure all the people on the stage and people nearby thought I was overcome with emotion when the drops were running down my face!
No photography was allowed at all I was told on the way in, several times as was everyone else. Even though my camera was securely packed away in my little back pack, I felt like I was walking in with a ticking bomb.
The concert started at 8:15pm and finished at about 10:30pm to thunderous applause especially when Burt promised to return saying he loved Birmingham and would be supporting Aston Villa. Dearie me!
I headed down to the Anchor in Digbeth to finish the evening, chatting to Jerry, the landlord as I hadn't been there for millions of years. I got my bus home soon after midnight and sank gratefully into bed at about 1am.
Track? I picked this one by ZZ Top before I went out last night so apologies that it doesn't go with anything! I don't think the little starling was saying this to Eric who certainly didn't look impressed anyway - I Need You Tonight
