Day 2- the Island Odyssey
An early morning beach and forest walk before breakfast (but yes, there was coffee first!) - in the rain! But then the sun came out and it was a glorious day to sail in Frederick Sound. A stop to see the stellar sea lions (at least 150!) on a small island, and then a great low tide walk on the other side of this island, just teeming with salt water creatures. Saw oyster catchers and a sea otter too. Only saw one big sunflowerstar and 2 tiny sea stars here tho. The first mate, Mike, likes to go off in the zodiac and fish so after lunch and under way again he and H did that and H got this blip of the 68 foot ketch with her spinaker up. They unfortunately only caught one sculpin that went back to sea. But I thought we needed to see this fine boat - one of 5 like it in the world, this one is sister ship to Bluewater Adventure’s other boat, the Island Roamer (which we have sailed on to Haida villages in Alaska and Haida Guaii.) -this one was acquired from Argentina in 2003 where it was a private yacht and refitted with the 8 teeny tiny cabins. (12 passengers, 4 crew) Lots more whales, birds, more glorious glaciers - a wonderful day ended with an beautiful anchorage in Pleasant Harbor on Admiralty Island.
