Cultural Excursion

Trip downtown this morning to the Corcoran Gallery and Phillips Collection. Both highly recommended. I had been to the Corcoran before and it's American Artist's collection is truly excellent. I had never been to the Phillips before - some terrific American artists but also a fine collection of major impressionist paintings. Gallery is free during the week we probably explains why it was so quiet at the weekend.

Renoir is a favorite of mine - its strange seeing a major work "in the flesh" particularly the 'luncheon party' which is on place mat settings and goodness knows what else. Sometimes the viewing exceeds expectations - this time curiously not - perhaps a result of all the other fine work which proceeded it.
