Friends At Mitcham's Corner.

This is the second picture of the art project. The models here were dressed by teenagers at AccessArts Experimental drawing class at Artworks. There is a notice which says :- Please feel free to give the models a friendship bracelet to show your appreciation of Mitcham's Corner. Sadly. the whole area is a complete mess. This terrace of once grand, four storey houses with basements and attics, built in the 1800's, are now marooned in the centre of a large traffic island. the junction of four busy roads. The gardens have been taken away along with the passageway at the back for the horses and carriages. I think many of the premises are student accommodation now. Most days there are a number of drinkers who gather here and sit on a nearby wall, a regular meeting place it seems. Along with the paper shop, dentist, cobblers and bakers, a 'Private Shop' managed to over ride the objections from residents and open up opposite here. On a more positive note, AccessArt is a UK charity which inspires creativity www.accessart.org.uk Finally the name Mitcham's Corner comes from a shop that was nearby for decades, but although no longer trading the name has stuck.
