My Best Efforts - Year 3

This Yew Walk........

.........gives the impression - at a distance - of being a "Cloud Hedge" - it's much, much bigger than any cloud Hedge I have ever seen!

Do have a look at this on large -there are so many amusing shapes if you have imagination!

Cloud pruning is a Japanese method of training trees and shrubs into shapes resembling clouds. It is known as 'Niwaki', the translation of which is 'garden tree'. The style is said to depict the distilled essence of the tree. This type of pruning does not have to be used in solely Japanese-style gardens; it can be used as a feature in gardens of many different styles.

This walk was started in the 1700s with yew trees that, over the years, has been clipped into the shapes they are today. The odd tree or bush that is not a yew has crept in but as long as it is evergreen, it doesn't really matter

A cherry-picker is required to keep up with the clipping and pruning which is just about a full time job! It could soon lose its overall definition if not meticulously tended!

I took a couple of shots but soon realised there needed to be an additional image as a point of reference to give an idea of the amazing size of the thing. I didn't have to wait long before a young chap sat on one of seats to have a smoke. Perfect - you can, I hope, now picture just how massive the whole creation really is!

Another nearly as lovely day as yesterday but with a few more clouds and rain overnight - there were puddles early on so we must have had more than a shower. At 3.00pm it is measuring 76 Deg. F. - very nice indeed.

Anni is on another mission - over three days I think - spoke an hour or so ago and part of the time she was driving through torrential rain and the next minute in brilliant sunshine! She is on her own and, I'm sure, much prefers it that way - doesn't have to stop unless she wants to!!!

Hope she and you all have a great day.
