Globe thistle and the bee

Today's the day ........................... to be up to your knees in it

Did a spot of gardening today - clearing away the weeds that have almost completely taken over the first flower bed that you see when you come into our front garden.

We should plant these Echinops in there instead. You never have to weed them. They just make sure that they are the only thing growing in the space you have given them. They are pretty spectacular-looking at this time of the year too - with their purple flowers.

The bees love them and there are often two or three of them at a time on a flowerhead - up to their knees in pollen .....................
