The Big Fish

Another grey day here today so I thought I'd start to blip some of Belfast's landmarks. In fact, with this blip you get two for the price of one: the 'Big Fish' sculpture and one of the famous Harland and Wolff cranes in the background!

This 10 metre long salmon has been sitting by the River Lagan for over a decade now. It's covered in blue and white ceramic tiles showing images from Belfast's history, and apparently contains some kind of time capsule. The fish is situated at the confluence of the River Lagan and the River Farset, the latter being the river Belfast is named after (Béal Feirste). Unfortunately you won't see much of the River Farset if you come to Belfast these days, it now runs through a huge pipe under High Street :)
