CannyScot's Day

Classic designs and lovely children

Nice, bright, sunny day in Pitlochry.

While my wife was involved with a Trustee meeting I took the grandchildren out to explore Pitlochry and beyond. After some fun in the local park we went and found a nearby geocache. Then off to the Boating Lake and feeding the ducks (photo on Flikr). At the spot of another geocache, there was this view of two award winning bridges - one which is part of the A9 By-Pass of Pitlochry and the other is a footbridge which leads round to the Dam on Loch Faskally. I am not sure how impressed the girls were with the bridges, which were built around 1950, but they were awarded a Saltire Prize for architectural design in 1980. I think they were well deserving of the award.

We then visited the Pass of Killiekrankie and the Soldier's Leap (reputed to be Donald MacLean - in 1689). If you want to read about this exciting but sad event see here. It is a very steep walk down (and back up) so the children did it themselves, while I had soup in the Cafe at the top!

Re-united with my wife we made our way home after what has been a memorable summer of great weather and lots of interesting places we have taken the girls. Roll on the October holiday when we are taking them to Mull, where I will preach one Sunday, and in exchange, we get to stay for a week in a beautiful caravan.

If you would like to see a few photos of our trip in this beautiful pary of Scotland, head over to my Flikr set.
