Graffiti with history

Tonight was an outdoor meeting at the club. Well not all outdoors, but away from the usual club room anyway.

We had access to St Edith's Curch at Monks Kirby north eat of Coventry.
A place of worship has been on the site since the 7th century, parts of the current building are from the 10th century and one of the bells from the 13th century. The rest, still rather grand for such a small village, is somewhat younger by comparison.

We went up to the bell chamber to see the eight bells that had all been rung up ready of tonights bell ringing practice. Thankfully, I didn't hang around for when the started.

However, tucked away in a corner in the bell chamber was this graffiti - well, in fact, three pieces spanning fifty years.

The middle one was scrawled in 1962 by the grandson of Chief Inspector Walter Dew of Scotland Yard. He was famous for arresting Dr Crippin in 1910. Since then, two other members of the family have added their names, one just a few weeks ago.

Odd to find an obtuse link to the past in a place with may centuries history.
