Happy Face .... On

Washed ..... Check
Shaved ...... Check
Brushed teeth ..... Check
Clean socks .... Check
Pants turned inside out ..... Check (back to front tomorrow)

That's me done. I'm ready for a new day.

A little late in bringing this up, but watched the program 'Executed' on catch up recently. I have to say, they didn't hang around (no pun intended) in those days. There were two cases in particular that shocked both in terms of the speed with which justice was done and the injustice of the whole thing. One was Timothy Evans who was hanged for the murder of his wife and daughter in 1950 and the other was Derek Bentley who was hanged for the murder of a policeman in January 1953. Both were blatantly innocent; it just felt like the system had to punish someone and nothing was going to stop them, even the fact that they probably knew these men were innocent. And, unlike the legal system today with its drawn out trials, things were done very swiftly. Both men were tried within a couple of days and hanged just 3 weeks later. Frightening.

If you want a good read related to this topic, I can highly recommend The Confession by John Grisham. Really gets your blood boiling.
